Gardner Minshew earns rookie of the week honors
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew was named the Pepsi rookie of the week after an impressive outing against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Minshew, a sixth-round pick out of Washington State, had to step in after starting quarterback Nick Foles suffered a broken clavicle following a touchdown pass early in Sunday’s 40-26 loss.
Minshew looked poised in his first NFL regular season appearance, completing 22-of-25 passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns. His only three incompletions came on drops and batted passes, making his performance even more impressive.
Minshew led four scoring drives against the Chiefs defense, setting a franchise record in completion percentage (88.0%) after throwing 25+ passes in a game.
Minshew also set NFL history, becoming the first player in the last 40 years to complete his first 13 career passes.
Minshew will make his first NFL start Sunday against the Houston Texans after Foles was placed on injured reserve Monday.
