Jalen Ramsey leaving team to await birth of 2nd child in Nashville
A few hours after Jacksonville Jaguars star cornerback Jalen Ramsey missed Wednesday's practice with what head coach Doug Marrone described as "back tightness", the team announced he would be leaving the team for an undetermined time as he awaits the birth of his second child.
"Months ago in the offseason, Jalen notified me that he was expecting the birth of his second child in late September. We spoke about this recently and again today after practice and decided that it was best for Jalen to fly to Nashville tonight after meetings to be with his family during the birth of their daughter. He will return to the team when he’s ready, and we will provide an update at that time," Marrone said in a statement on Wednesday.
Ramsey missed Monday's team activities with an illness that was treated by team doctors, and he has been getting treated by team trainers for his injuries since following Thursday's 20-7 win against the Tennessee Titans.
With Ramsey likely to miss his first ever NFL start on Sunday, expect second-year cornerback Tre Herndon to take his place in the starting lineup. For more insight on Herndon, read this story JaguarMaven wrote on him following his first NFL start against the Houston Texans in week 2.
