NFL Power Rankings Roundup: Where Do the Jaguars Land After Week 2?

Where do the Jaguars fall in power rankings after a tough loss vs. the Chiefs?

The Jacksonville Jaguars fell back to earth in Week 2.

After being a popular top-5 selection in the post-Week 1 power rankings, the Jaguars laid an offensive egg against the Kansas City Chiefs at home on Sunday. As a result, it is likely fair to say the Jaguars will see some steep drops in the eyes of national analysts after the 17-9 loss.

So where do pundits have the Jaguars after Week 2? We review below.

Fox Sports: No. 11 (-1)

"If the end zone were 11 yards instead of 10, the Jags would’ve scored at least 24 on the Chiefs. Unfortunately, I re-checked the rule book and ‘almost’ still doesn’t count. There’s no shame at all in losing to Kansas City, but Jacksonville’s got to be more efficient in the red zone. The offense in general hasn’t looked as explosive as we might’ve thought," Fox Sports said.

NFL.com: No. 9 (-2)

"It’s surprising that a team with Trevor Lawrence, Calvin Ridley, Travis Etienne, Christian Kirk, Evan Engram and Zay Jones can go 3-for-12 on third downs in back-to-back games. It might be reasonably excused against what looks like a pretty good Chiefs defense," NFL.com said. "But when you plop an 0-for-3 red-zone performance on top of it, well, you just can’t have that. It’s easy to look at the new play-caller, but I don’t think Press Taylor is a fair scapegoat, even if the only memorable conversion was Lawrence ad-libbing on his TD pass to Ridley against the Colts in Week 1. The offensive line needs to pick it up these next two games without the suspended Cam Robinson."

33rd Team: No. 8 (-3)

"There is no shame in losing to the Chiefs but scoring just nine points against them at home is disappointing. The Jacksonville Jaguars‘ offense stumbled, but no one could have asked for more out of their defense. Jacksonville has the raw materials to contend in the AFC, but it showed last week it isn’t quite there yet," The 33rd Team said.

USA Today: No. 11 (-3)

fell three spots

"They'll get right against Houston in Week 3, right? Well, the "lowly" Texans have beaten Jacksonville five times in a row and eight of the past nine on the road," USA Today said.

Bleacher Report: No. 8 (-1)

"In the leadup to Sunday's showdown with the Chiefs, the Jaguars talked a big game, insisting they "owed" the Chiefs some payback after losing to Kansas City in the playoffs. After the game, all the Jaguars owe is an apology to their fans. The Jacksonville offense imploded against the Chiefs. Jacksonville had just 271 yards of total offense. The team converted just three of 12 third downs. And the Jags were held out of the end zone," Bleacher Report said.

CBS Sports: No. 10 (-7)

"The defense played well against the Chiefs, but the offense wasn't good. The offensive line is a problem right now, which is why the red-zone offense was bad," Pete Prisco said.

Yahoo! Sports: No. 11

"It was tough to see Trevor Lawrence miss as many throws as he did on Sunday. He has come a long way, but those bad games are still not completely out of his system yet," Yahoo! Sports said.

Pro Football Network: No. 9 (-1)

"It doesn’t feel like the Jaguars have really gotten going yet, but we have enough confidence in Doug Pederson, Trevor Lawrence, and Co. to place them ninth in our power rankings. Lawrence struggled against the Kansas City Chiefs’ defense on Sunday, completing just 54% of his passes for 216 scoreless yards. A Week 3 matchup against the Texans could be just what the doctor ordered," Pro Football Network said.
