Report: Jaguars Set to Add Kris Richard, Cory Robinson to Defensive Staff
The Jacksonville Jaguars are reportedly adding a pair of former New Orleans Saints assistants to their defensive staff.
According to KPRC2's Aaron Wilson, the Jaguars will be hiring both Kris Richard and Cory Robinson to add to defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen's staff. Robinson will be cornerbacks coach, while Richard has an undisclosed title.
Nielsen coached with Richard in New Orleans from 2021-2022 and coached with Robinson from 2020-2022. Robinson served as assistant defensive backs coach in New Orleans and worked closely with Richard.
After not coaching in 2023, Richard took a head coaching interview with the Las Vegas Raiders this month. Last year, Richard interviewed with the Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos for their vacant defensive coordinator positions, which then went to Vic Fangio and Vance Joseph, respectively.
Before leading a strong Saints secondary for two reasons, Richard served as the Dallas Cowboys' defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator from 2018-2019.
Before then, Richard was with the Seattle Seahawks from 2010-2017, reuniting with his college coach in Carroll. Richard started as an assistant defensive backs coach in 2010 before being promoted to cornerbacks coach in 2011.
From 2012-2014, which is also known as the Legion of Boom era, Richard served as defensive backs coach and was given tremendous credit for the Seahawks' elite secondary play. From 2017-2017, Richard served as Dan Quinn's replacement as Seattle's defensive coordinator, Richard's first tenure as a coordinator in the NFL.
In addition, the Jaguars have also reportedly hired former LSU defensive coordinator Matt House as inside linebackers coach, giving Nielsen a solid group of assistants in his first year as coordinator.
