‘Sky Is the Limit: Why Peyton Manning Believes Trevor Lawrence, Jaguars Are Here To Stay

The former Colts and Broncos legend envisions big things for Lawrence and the Jaguars organization.

The Duval County train has picked up another passenger.

Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning is the latest legend to show respect toward a Jaguars organization that is trending upwards following a successful first season under the guise of Doug Pederson, Trevor Lawrence and company.

At the forefront of Manning’s praises is young sensation Trevor Lawrence, who took the league by storm this past season and continues to show the world why he was worthy of a number one overall draft choice. For Manning, the potential of the young gunslinger was recognized early on at a football camp of his, where the two established a connection.

“Look Trevor, I mean, sky is the limit for this guy,” Manning said in an interview at the Pro Bowl Games. “I’ve known him since he came to our football camp years ago and stayed in touch with him. Trevor wore number 16 because he was a Tennessee fan growing up and I wish he went to Tennessee but we’ve gotten past that. I like the way he carries himself, he’s got a great knowledge of the system.”

”I think he and Doug Pederson could be a tough combination for a long time, for years to come. I’m really happy for him.”

Manning cited continuity and stability as reasons why Lawrence has thrived so soon. That all starts with the offensive minded approach and scheme implemented by Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson.

“I like when the head coach is calling the plays often because that means there is continuity in the offense,” Manning said. “Even if Doug’s (Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson) not calling it, it’s still going to be the same system and that’s good for a quarterback. If a quarterback has to learn a new system every year that’s difficult so I like the situation that Trevor’s in.”

Like many around NFL circles, Manning feels that these factors will lead to sustained success in Jacksonville, with the two time Super Bowl champ indicating that this season sent a message to the rest of the AFC that they have arrived in large part because of their franchise quarterback.

“They had great success this year,” Manning said. “You know, they kinda sent a message to the rest of the AFC that Jacksonville’s here and I expect great things out of him (Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence) in the coming years.”
