Which Former Jaguars Will be Playing in Super Bowl LVIII?
The NFL will see the 2023 season end in two weeks when the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers face off in Super Bowl LVIII.
The two best teams in football will go one-on-one to decide who gets to take home another Lombardi Trophy, and either result will see several former Jacksonville Jaguars earn rings -- but which ones?
Chiefs QB Blaine Gabbert
The former first-round pick and starting quarterback of the dying days of the Jack Del Rio era and the Mike Mularkey season, Blaine Gabbert has been a relatively successful backup quarterback in the NFL. This year, he replaced another former Jaguars quarterback Chad Henne as Patrick Mahomes' backup.
Chiefs RT Jawaan Taylor
After starting 68 games for the Jaguars in four years, which included two playoff games last season, right tackle Jawaan Taylor left in free-agency for a mega-deal from the Kansas City Chiefs. Taylor has drawn a high rate of penalties and become of the faces for officials cracking down on offensive line alignment, but he has now started all 20 games for the Chiefs this year and will be expected to face off with Nick Bosa in two weeks.
Chiefs TE Blake Bell
Blake Bell played 10 games for the Jaguars in 2018, catching eight passes for 67 yards. Since then, four of his five seasons have been spent with the Kansas City Chiefs as a primary backup for Travis Kelce. In 2023, Bell caught five passes for 26 yards and one touchdown.
49ers S Tashaun Gipson
A former starter in the Jaguars' vaunted 2017 defense, Tashaun Gipson played a third season for the club in 2018 but then left to play for the Houston Texans, then the Chicago Bears, then the 49ers. Gipson has started 38 games for the 49ers over the last two years between the regular-season and playoffs.
49ers WR Chris Conley
One of the Jaguars' top pass-catchers in 2019, Chris Conley has had stops with the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans before signing with the 49ers this year. Conley has recorded one catch in the playoffs, but it was a key 17-yard gain late in a win over the Green Bay Packers.
49ers QB Brandon Allen
A former sixth-round pick by the Jaguars in the 2016 NFL Draft, Brandon Allen is still hanging around as a backup quarterback. He was named the 49ers' No. 3 quarterback this season. Allen started three games for the Denver Broncos in 2019 and then spent three years with the Cincinnati Bengals, starting six games in the process.
49ers OL Ben Bartch
A former Jaguars fourth-round pick, Ben Bartch has appeared in five games this year after the 49ers signed him off the Jaguars' practice squad. Bartch had opened the 2022 season as the Jaguars' starting left guard before a knee injury sidelined him. He once again opened the season as a started in 2023 before he was replaced by Tyler Shatley, and he was waived and added to the practice squad after the Ezra Cleveland trade.
