Why Mina Kimes Believes Trevor Lawrence Is on the Fast Track to Being a Top-5 QB

The Jaguars franchise signal-caller has shown exponential growth entering his third season.

When talking about the growth of this young Jacksonville Jaguars squad, it is hard to ignore their franchise signal caller.

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence is the man leading the charge with exceptional play under center, so much so that most speculate him being regarded as a top-five quarterback as soon as next season.

Among those projecting this substantial rise is ESPN analyst Mina Kimes. In an interview with 1010XL's 'Helmets and Heels' show, Kimes clarified that while Lawrence’s exceptional 2022 season isn’t enough to rank him in the top five quite yet, another excellent showing will change that narrative.

“Not yet,” Kimes said when asked if Lawrence is in the same conversation as Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes. “Just because we’re really going off of one season but, you know, when you combine that season with what we saw in college and how early it’s happening, it’s hard not to be excited."

“On my show, The Mina Kimes Show, we did a quarterback draft for the next three years is our timeline, and Trevor I believe went seventh, which is pretty impressive for someone his age. So if things keep going in this direction I think it’s easy to see him in that top tier with Mahomes, Burrow, Allen, Herbert, etc. after this year.”

During that aforementioned 2022 campaign, Lawrence posted 25 passing touchdowns to eight interceptions, completing 66.3% of his passes and an overall QBR of 95.2 according to Pro Football Reference. The efforts of the 2021 first-round selection are the primary reason for the Jaguars' elevation to a consistent playoff threat under head coach Doug Pederson.

With that kind of pedigree and overall impact on your respective franchise, it seems to be only an amount of time before Lawrence enters those discussions in the upper echelons of NFL quarterbacks.
