Why Press Taylor Envisions an Improved Jaguars Offensive Line

Though a couple of key starters were lost, the Jags' offensive coordinator remains confident in the unit’s ability to build on its success in 2022.

The Jacksonville Jaguars offensive line will feature a different look in 2023.

With former right tackle Jaawan Taylor inking a pact with the Kansas City Chiefs and the suspension of left tackle Cam Robinson due to a violation of the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy, new starters are going to be a constant staple on the outside.

Though turnover at such critical positions can mess with a unit’s cohesion and overall progress, Jaguars offensive coordinator Press Taylor believes the opposite to be true, foreshadowing a much improved offensive line unit in 2023.

“We like to think so,” Taylor said when asked if it’s possible to get to a place where the offensive line is stronger than it was a year ago.

“Obviously everybody having familiarity in the system, familiarity with one another, we expect everybody to take that next step in terms of their progression and getting better at what we’re asking them to do. But I think the versatility of the guys in the room is really big for us. We have a lot of guys that can play multiple spots and so whoever’s available, however everything plays out moving into it, I think we can put together a pretty good combination and then be flexible in that combination. But we’re very confident in where that group can go.”

Though the length of the suspension on the aforementioned Cam Robinson is yet to be finalized, the Jags are expected to get him back at some point in the middle of the season, creating a log jam at offensive tackle that serves to only benefit a growing unit that added 2023 first-round pick Anton Harrison to its ranks this offseason.

“A great problem to have,” Taylor said when asked about the offensive tackle predicament.

“You know, depending on the timeframe they give us with Cam [Jaguars offensive tackle Cam Robinson] or however that falls, we’ll have a plan, little bit firmer plan moving forward into that. Until then, we’re just preparing every single day for everybody to be the best at whatever position we’re asking them to play that day. It may be different day to day based on who they are, but again, we like to cross-train our guys so they’re available for any spot at any time.”
