Less than one month removed from a brief flirtation with Decision 2024, New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is once again bizarrely blurring the lines between sports and politics.

As the Jets prepare to commence the voluntary portion of their offseason workout program on Monday, Rodgers recently sat down for an guest appearance with the I Can Fly podcast. For the first time publicly, Rodgers spoke about his reported candidacy as Robert F. Kennedy’s Vice Presidential running mate, while also sharing some candid, yet curiously interesting information.

“I got mentioned as a finalist to be, you know, Vice President on a ticket [with RFK Jr.] and they (bleeping) attacked me with some bizarre story from years ago,” Rodgers said, referring to his controversial theories on the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting in 2012. “There was a third-hand account or something. They’re terrified. They’re terrified of people that think for themselves that aren’t controlled.

“I’m not beholden to anybody,” he continued. “I have a contract. I can get cut at any point. I have very few sponsors now. They’re all people that I really believe in and there’s some sort of equity investment in it. But I’m not controlled. Nobody controls my messaging. Nobody controls my social media. Nobody can control me. You know, I think for myself. I speak for myself. And that’s dangerous to an establishment that wants more power, control and obedience.”

Rodgers, however, did not limit his remarks to simply defending his self-professed “free spirit” persona. The topics he covered ranged from his concern over RFK Jr’s safety to his thoughts on President Joe Biden, former President Donald Trump and additional assassination conspiracies — all in a lengthy interview which is best heard to be fully evaluated.

In the meantime, Rodgers will turn his attention to the upcoming season — his second with the Jets. The 40-year-old was traded to New York, along with the Green Bay Packers' first and fifth-round selections in the 2023 NFL Draft, in exchange for the Jets' first, second and sixth-round selections in the 2023 draft and a conditional second-round selection in 2024.

However, he suffered a ruptured Achilles on just his fourth offensive snap of the season. Though he missed nearly the entirety of his first season in New York, Rodgers is expected to be ready for the start of training camp in June.
