As the New York Jets march closer to the upcoming NFL Draft, their primary focus appears to be upgrading their prowess on offense.

Despite upgrading both their offensive line and receiver corps — largely considered to be their biggest needs — Gang Green is still expected to invest prime draft capital in both protecting and weaponizing quarterback Aaron Rodgers

Still, the Jets know as well as any team in the NFL that deploying a strong defense is vital to their championship aspirations. Should they choose to invest mid-round capital maintaining their strength along their defensive line, a prospect likely to be on their radar is Alabama defensive lineman Justin Eboighbe.

Listed at 6-4 and 297 pounds, Eboigbe possesses both the physical tools and high motor to be effective within New York’s front seven. Last season, he totaled 63 tackles, pass batted and seven sacks in 2023, proving himself a force in both pass rush and run defense. As a run defender, Eboigbe has a quick first step combined with great power. Though he anchors well to defend the pass, opposing linemen could circumvent his strength with technique to win their battles. Still, Eboigbe’s experience playing under former Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban should prepare him for action at the pro level sooner rather than later.

If Eboigbe catches the eye of the Jets on Draft weekend, he would project as a reserve three-tech option, needing additional coaching to refine his pro-level skill set. Fortunately, the Jets are well-stocked along their front seven. In addition to All Pro Quinnen Williams and newly-signed Javon Kinlaw, New York employs Leki Fotu, Solomon Thomas, Bruce Hector, Michael Cleamons, Tanzel Smart and Jalyn Holmes at defensive tackle.

With John Franklin-Myers and freshly-acquired Haason Reddick manning the ends, Eboigbe would have several top-level defenders from which to learn if selected by the Jets on Day 2 or Day 3.
