The New York Jets have upgraded their offense this offseason with the acquisitions of receiver Mike Williams and tackles Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses. Thursday they got to work on the defense, re-signing free-agent safety Ashtyn Davis.

Davis, the team's third-round draft pick in 2020, drew interest from a few teams but ultimately is returning to Gang Green under head coach Robert Saleh and defensive coordinator Jeff Ullbrich. He had a career-high three interceptions while playing in all 17 games last season.

Davis, 27, has developed a knack for big plays, recording eight passes defensed, three tackles for loss and three fumble recoveries despite playing only 20 percent of the Jets' defensive snaps in 2023. Also versatile, he played safety, slot cornerback and even Nickel-package linebacker.

In addition, Davis is a valuable player on special teams. He ranked second on the team with 396 snaps last season behind only Jamien Sherwood. He led the team with 12 special teams tackles.
