Jets sign intriguing WR Josh Malone to fill out practice squad
While most practice squads around the league have largely taken shape, the Jets finalized their ten-man practice roster on Wednesday. Rounding out the tantalizing group is former 2017 fourth-round pick Josh Malone.
Malone, 23, was selected with the 128th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals after a productive three-year career at the University of Tennessee. Malone has appeared in 20 games over the past two seasons, including seven starts as a rookie.
The third-year wideout has amassed seven receptions for 75 yards and a touchdown in limited offensive duty. A nagging hamstring injury limited him to just nine games last season.
Malone made Cincinnati's initial 53-man roster last Saturday, but became a casualty a mere 24 hours later, when the team claimed wide receiver Pharoh Cooper off waivers.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound prospect offers tantalizing speed and length on the perimeter. His innate knack for high-pointing passes, and beating cornerbacks down the field with his long speed should only help the much maligned Jets secondary in practice.
Though still a bit of a raw talent after two years, Malone could conceivably earn a promotion to the active roster by season's end.
