New York Jets Hold Visit For Top Receiver NFL Draft Prospect
With the 10th overall pick, the New York Jets will be able to be as flexible as they want in the coming months leading up to April's Draft.
Once thought as a lock to a take the best available offensive lineman, the Jets' major spending in free agency has allowed them the choice to take the best available player in Detroit. Whether that is still a top offensive lineman like Olu Fashanu, or a plethora of offensive weapons like Brock Bowers or Rome Odunze, the Jets could have their pick of the litter at 10.
Perhaps that is why the organization has completed another draft meeting with a top receiver prospect.
As first reported by Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network, the Jets met with LSU wideout Malik Nabers ahead of his Pro Day on Wednesday. Nabers, considered by many as the second-best receiver of the current draft class, is expected to be a top-10 pick in April.
The Jets, according to Wolfe, are not the only team to meet with Nabers. The New York Giants, New England Patriots, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Tennessee Titans have all spoken to the All-American.
That's why, at least to most draft analysts, Nabers will be gone well before Gang Green makes their seelction with the 10th overall pick. That doesn't mean, however, that New York would be against trading up for a player such as the LSU star.
With free agent signings of left tackle Tyron Smith, guard John Simpson, and wide receiver Mike Williams, New York can be flexible with how they approach the draft. The Jets own seven draft picks in 2024 with just two in the first 100. A potential trade-up could be risky, but in a loaded receiver and offensive line class, any move to address the depth of the offense could be seen as a good one.
That's why, at least in appearance, the Jets meeting with Nabers is an important development. It could give the signal that New York is willing to trade up, or look to select players who can make an impact right away with the team.
At the very least, Nabers could certainly fill that criteria.
