Jamison Crowder says bye week is at 'right time' for depleted Jets
Ordinarily a Week 4 bye isn't ideal. However, this season it could prove vital for the New York Jets (0-3).
The injury bug has taken a massive bite out of the winless Jets. Eight projected starters sat out for the Jets during the 30-14 loss at the New England Patriots (3-0).
With Sam Darnold (mono) still resting and backup Trevor Siemian (ankle) out for the season, the Jets had to turn to third-string quarterback Luke Falk.
Additionally, other key players missing at New England included linebacker C.J. Mosley (groin), rookie defensive lineman Quinnen Williams (ankle) and wide receiver Demaryius Thomas (hamstring/knee).
So needless to say the bye week comes at an opportune time, giving Darnold, Mosley, Williams, Thomas and others a chance to heal and potentially return to the field in Week 5 at the Philadelphia Eagles (2-2).
Wide receiver Jamison Crowder anticipates a rejuvenating roster when the Jets come out of their break and attempt to earn their first victory of the season.
"We're going to get some key guys back coming out of the bye week. It's come at the right time," Crowder said. "Like they say, it's not how you start but how you finish."
With Darnold nearing his return, Crowder stands to greatly benefit because of the duo's emerging chemistry. Alongside Darnold, Crowder started the season by tying a franchise record for receptions in a game (14) during Week 1 vs. the Buffalo Bills (3-0).
In the last two games without Darnold, Crowder has only caught six more passes. In total, Crowder has tallied 164 yards.
The stagnant Jets offense has produced just one touchdown this season, which came in the third quarter of Week 1. Per ESPN Stats & Information, this is the first time in franchise history the Jets have only had one touchdown from scrimmage through three games.
The Jets have maintained an optimistic front despite their early season woes though. Crowder's comments are the latest example of the Jets trying to present a positive mindset for the challenge ahead.
One thing is for sure: It's going to require a total team effort to dig out of this hole. The fact that the Jets appear to be getting healthier during the bye week provides hope for a resilient response.
