Jets' Trevor Siemian out for season with ankle injury

With Siemian out for the season and Sam Darnold still on the mend, third-string quarterback Luke Falk is poised to make his first NFL start on Sunday.

After exiting Monday night's game with a gruesome ankle injury, the news somehow went from bad to worse for Jets quarterback Trevor Siemian in a matter of hours.

On Tuesday, Adam Gase confirmed the initial fear: Siemian is out for the season with an ankle injury.

Gase says Siemian suffered torn ankle ligaments and will have surgery once the swelling goes down.

Siemian's injury occurred with 7:58 left the second quarter, when Browns defensive end Myles Garrett drove the Jets quarterback into the turf for his second late hit of the game. Siemian's ankle twisted awkwardly beneath him as he landed.

The 27-year-old struggled in his first start since 2017, going just 3 of 6 for three yards.

With Siemian out for the season and starter Sam Darnold still sidelined with mono, third-string quarterback Luke Falk is likely to draw his first NFL start on Sunday against the surging New England Patriots.

Promoted from the practice squad hours before the Jets Week 2 clash, Falk went 20 of 25 for 198 yards in relief of Siemian.
