New York Jets 'A (Bleeping) Mess' with 'Aaron Rodgers as De Facto GM,' Claims Blockbuster Report
In this story:

The 2023 New York Jets' season hit a low point when "savior'' Aaron Rodgers limped away in Week 1 with season-ending Achilles injury. And along the way?

It only got worse from there.

Jets fans know much of the tale; you watched in unfold for yet another have-not year in New York. But now issues of dysfunction are oozing to the surface, with The Athletic - citing its communication with "30 sources'' -  revealing deep issues from the top all the way down.

'It's just such a (bleeping) mess,'' one Jets coach told The Athletic. "Something has to change.''

What might change? A healthy Rodgers playing QB. What looked troublesome to us, from the start, that is no way to run a football team? Newcomer Rodgers being allowed to call personnel shots.

Sources in the expose describe Rodgers as "the de facto general manager'' who was bowed down to by actual GM Joe Douglas. And indeed, we know that Rodgers at the very least made strong suggestions about the friends from his MVP days in Green Bay and elsewhere that he wanted on this roster.

We also know that quarterback's preferred offensive coordinator, Nathaniel Hackett, has not succeeded here, and in the story stands accused of losing players' trust.

One anonymous coach said he was stunned by Hackett's lack of preparedness following the Rodgers injury, saying he'd never seen a team watch so little scouting tape on opponents.

"Rodgers isn't the assistant GM,'' one AFC general manager told The Athletic. "Joe Douglas is the assistant GM.''

How much of this is true? How much of it is Rodgers' fault? How much of this is the fault of an organization that seemed so in love with the idea of acquiring a legend - who last offseason claimed he was "90-percent retiring'' before his darkness retreat - that its leaders fell all over themselves in deference to him?

Consider what The Athletic alleges was a common catchphrase inside team HQ at Florham Park ...

"That's what Aaron wants.''
