To paraphrase legendary rockers Aerosmith, playing for the New York Jets may have star receiver Garrett Wilson “livin’ on a ledge.”

While the talented Jets wideout is best known for his exciting play on the gridiron, Wilson recently caught the sharp eye of many within Gang Green Nation as the focal points of a viral social media posting

In a Friday afternoon photo shared on X (formerly Twitter,) Wilson is seen sitting on the ledge of an unspecified building in (presumably) New York City, sporting a smile and flashing a spirited hand gesture. Not only was Wilson several stories above the ground, he appeared to be devoid of protective netting or a harness which would ensure his safety in the event of a fall.

Naturally, his photo was met with interesting reactions from the hundreds of curious commenters.

“That’s what playing for the Jets does to someone,” wrote Bandwagon Sports.

While the meaning behind Wilson’s photo will continue to be debated, the 23-year-old will soon be back on the field — helping to lead the Jets to an improvement from their 7-10 finish last season. The third-year receiver was drafted by New York in the first round with the No. 10 overall selections. He finished his rookie season with 83 receptions for 1,103 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns. He set franchise rookie records for receptions and receiving yards in a single season. He was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team and was awarded the Associated Press NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

In the wake of quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ season-ending torn Achilles in Week 1 last season, New York’s pass-catchers struggled due to poor quarterback play and ineffective talent management. In fact, Pro Football Focus ranked them 31 of 32 NFL teams. The exception to the rule, Wilson, caught 95 passes for 1,042 yards and three touchdowns.

However, the Jets failed to receive notable contributions from the remaining components of their positional depth chart — most notably Allen Lazard, who despite signing a four-year, $44 million deal with New York last offseason, logged only 23 catches for 311 yards and one touchdown.

Still, the Jets and Wilson have reason to be optimistic heading into 2024. Following a brief flirtation with politics, Rodgers is expected to be healthy and back on the field. Also, Wilson will be joined in the receivers room by perimeter weapon Mike Williams, who signed a one-year deal with the Jets last week.
