Jets Hiring More Offensive Coaches?

Head coach Robert Saleh teased the idea following the conclusion of the 2023 season, but that doesn't mean more offensive minds will be added shortly.
In this story:

When the 2023 season ended, New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh mentioned that he would consider adding some additional offensive coaches to bring fresh ideas to the current staff.

Now, that might no longer be the case.

Speaking to Heavy Sports host Paul Esden Jr., New York Post Jets beat reporter Brian Costello stated that the team might not be trying to address some of the offensive assistant roles that recently opened due to promotions elsewhere from past staff members.

"I don’t think they’re hiring anyone. I think the staff is set. I think they explored it. I think they looked at some guys but guys had some OC options that they explored," Costello said. "I think they explored it & talked to some guys, but I think at the end of the day they decided not to do it."

New York lost quarterback coach Rob Calabrese, offensive assistant Mack Brown, and others to promotions elsewhere. While some position coaches have already been replaced such as wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson and running back coach Tony Dews, the lack of movement at quarterback coach, or as a senior offensive assistant is different than how the Jets seemed to operate when the offseason began.

Rumors have run rampant that former Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith interviewed for an offensive assistant role but ended up going to Pittsburgh for a play-calling role as the Steelers offensive coordinator.

Of course, one reason why New York would not be too desperate to fill the quarterback coach room is due to the fact they have their coach on the field in four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers and offensive assistant Todd Downing.

Uh-Oh: Jets Targeting Another Receiver Connected to Aaron Rodgers?

Despite the changes, or lack thereof in some prominent coaching roles isn't a major concern for the Jets at this point as they prepare for the 2024 Scouting Combine.

"This time of year, there are a lot of changes happening," Jets general manager Joe Douglas said Wednesday. "We lost Rob, but again, we feel good about our group moving forward and I know Robert has a good plan for his staff. I feel confident that position is going to be in a really good place."
