Mike Williams is considered the best available free agent on the open market.

For the New York Jets, the potential addition of one of the top players on the open market could fundamentally change how the organization is perceived going into the 2024 season.

New York is holding a visit for the former Los Angeles Chargers wideout Tuesday with other scheduled visits later in the week for other franchises. The Jets have roughly around $17 million in cap space with potential restructures adding even more in the coming weeks. While the Jets could theoretically give Williams the contract he is looking for, the former 1,000-yard receiver will be mulling over his options over the coming days.

Williams has a visit with the Carolina Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers in the days following his visit with the Jets this week. Both teams are also in need of a big-play wideout.

The real question will end up being what kind of contract is the wideout looking for.

The Jets have more cap space than Carolina or Pittsburgh, but the kind of money Williams is looking for may be too much for a player coming off a torn ACL that saw him lost for most of the 2023 season. How the Clemson product returns from his surgery could indicate the kind of deal he will get on the open market.

While he could certainly look for other deals elsewhere, the Jets are the first team up that has the chance to entice the veteran wideout to come and play football for them.

And few organizations can tout a Hall-of-Fame quarterback like Aaron Rodgers on their roster.
