Jets 'LeSauceGM' Already Recruiting Free Agent Receivers?
Almost as soon as the 2023 regular season ended for the New York Jets the front office acknowledged that they would need to address the wide receiver position in the offseason.
It seems that some on the team are already taking it upon themselves to make that happen...weeks before free agency begins.
Two-time All-Pro Sauce Gardner took to Twitter Monday afternoon to discuss his plans for recruiting top receivers this offseason while calling himself "LeSauceGM."
"I know alot of y'all are skeptical about how LeSauce recruits," the cornerback said in a tweet. "First, I start by getting an elite QB..Then, I get the WRs that I know could win me a National 7on7 tournament..Then I get an O-Line to protect my elite QB so he can throw to them..Then I move on."
In a series of tweets following his initial point, Gardner targeted Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans, while previously making a point to mention Tee Higgins and Calvin Ridley.
All three receivers are at different points in their free agency journey, though.
Higgins could very well be tagged by the Cincinnati Bengals despite looking for a long-term deal. Evans was not tagged by the Buccaneers and is reportedly waiting to see what happens with Baker Mayfield (another UFA for Tampa). Ridley is the only one of the three that does not have major ties to the team he plays for, while also expecting to hit the open market.
Gardner won't be the only player on the Jets helping with recruiting either. On several occasions, New York franchise quarterback Aaron Rodgers stated that he was willing to help the team in whatever recruiting would need to take place.
Sam Howell To Jets: Gang Green 'Likes' Commanders' Quarterback?
As we get closer to the start of free agency, though, the Jets understand they have a lot of needs on the current roster, with plenty of cap maneuvering to do.
At the very least, it seems the current roster is willing to recruit some of the top players available if it means the front office holds up its end by clearing enough room to bring said players in.
