Senior Bowl Scouting: 5 Prospects for Jets
We're just days away from the 2024 Senior Bowl and the New York Jets should be very pleased.
Not only has defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich shown he can lead a unit independently, but there have been plenty of standouts in practices at positions of need.
New York has made it known that they use the Senior Bowl as an effective scouting tool. Players like Jermaine Johnson, Jeremy Ruckert, Max Mitchell, and Will McDonald were all participants in Mobile, Alabama. It's a clear sign that the Jets could target players from the groups that are practicing now.
With that being said, here are five names that the Jets will be interested in that have stood out in some way during the week's worth of practice reps.
Roman Wilson - WR, Michigan
Wilson and cornerback Quinyon Mitchell have been the two best players throughout their practices in Mobile. The Jets don't need another top cornerback so Wilson is a player that could be a tremendous asset for the team.
He doesn't have blazing speed and isn't the tallest receiver, but the Michigan product makes up for his deficiencies with supreme route-running ability and strong hands.
He may not be available to the Jets unless they trade back in the first round and acquire a second-round pick, but Wilson would be a tremendous second option to New York's top wideout in Garrett Wilson.
Taliese Fuaga - RT, Oregon State
It's been well-known that the Jets and general manager Joe Douglas have an "affinity" for Oregon State tackle Taliese Fuaga. The 6'5" right tackle looked like the best offensive lineman throughout the week and showed that if the team was going to miss out on the top two targets, they wouldn't exactly be screwed.
Fuaga has a powerful first step and uses his hands better than other right tackle prospects. It's clear that unless the Jets miss out on Joe Alt or Olu Fashanu, Fuaga will be the pick.
Ladd McConkey - WR, Georgia
Could you imagine a slot demon like Ladd McConkey catching passes from Aaron Rodgers? It would be like watching the Wes Welker/Julian Edelman connection with Tom Brady except...Jets fans will enjoy watching it this time.
McConkey got open as much as Wilson did and helped his draft stock mightily.
Don't be surprised if the Jets focus on the offensive line early in the draft, but go after McConkey as early as the third round. They need players who can get open and the Georgia product is at the top of that list.
Christian Haynes - OG, UCONN
Most analysts will point to the wins picked up by Mitchell, Wilson, or even the quarterbacks during Mobile. Connecticut guard Christian Haynes is a quiet guy who has looked good in every practice.
Haynes wasn't overpowering throughout the week, but he's been good in run-blocking drills and effective in pass-blocking sets. He's a player who could raise draft boards with good testing in pro days and the NFL Combine.
He also could solve the Jets issues on the interior as well.
Michael Hall - DT, Ohio State
One of the under-the-radar needs for Gang Green this offseason is at defensive tackle. While Quinnen Williams is still an All-Pro talent, the team does not have a dependable player to develop with the 26-year-old phenom.

Enter Michael Hall.
Hall may be undersized at only 280 pounds, but he could give the Jets the kind of interior pass rush they would miss if Quinton Jefferson is not resigned.
