The New York Jets have reportedly signed former San Francisco 49ers cornerback Isaiah Oliver to a one-year deal, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

In doing so, the Jets have helped to bolster their depth at nickel corner, while adding a potential contributor on the right side of the perimeter.

Oliver, 27, helped the 49ers to a 12-5 record during the 2023 regular season. The veteran cornerback had 67 total tackles, two tackles for loss, a fumble recovery, two passes defensed and one interception.

During the Niners postseason run to Super Bowl LVIII, Oliver played primarily on special teams, recording 35 snaps over three games.

The Atlanta Falcons drafted Oliver with No. 58 overall pick in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Colorado. The All-Pac 12 First-Teamer in 2017 quickly became one of Atlanta’s most reliable defenders. Though a knee injury forced him from all but four games in 2021, he still played in 62 games (38 starts) in his five-year run with the Falcons. During his time in Atlanta, he compiled 203 total tackles, 34 passes-defensed, three forced fumbles (recovering one) and two interceptions.

Despite having signed a two-year pact with San Francisco last season, the team released last month, clearing $2.4 million in cap space. In joining the Jets, Oliver is now heading to his third NFL team in his seventh season in the league.

Jets Re-Sign Safety To Contract Extension

In addition to signing Oliver, the Jets also re-signed safety Chuck Clark on Sunday.

The NFL year will officially begin on March 13 at 4 p.m. ET. Teams may, however, begin negotiating with free agents  beginning on March 11, the start of the league’s legal tampering period.
