NFL Experts: New York Jets 'Should Play in the Most Primetime Games'
The New York Jets are slowly becoming a favorite amongst National Football League pundits.
In a recent NFL.com article promoting the League's Schedule Release, three of the eight participating analysts identified the Jets as the team that "should play in the MOST prime-time games in the 2023 season."
Gang Green was one of only four teams highlighted by any of the eight experts. Three others selected the Super Bowl LVII champion Kansas City Chiefs while one chose the Baltimore Ravens and another went with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Jets have officially become primetime darlings since acquiring future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Since March, it has been speculated that Gang Green could receive a full allotment of standalone games.
A television network source has told Jets Country to expect the Jets and New York Giants to meet in the Monday Night Football opener on September 11. The source also claimed a Jets-Bills game has also been slotted in a primetime window.
When it comes to which matchups will land on the NFL's primetime schedule, the Jets' list of opponents provides a number of enticing options in 2023.
"As such, obviously, they [the Jets] play the Bills twice, they've got an incredible schedule this year. They play Kansas City, they play Dallas, they play Philly. If Aaron Rodgers is the quarterback, we're going to do something with those games. If Aaron Rodgers isn't the quarterback of the Jets, we're going to do something with those games, but maybe not as much," said NFL VP of Broadcasting Mike North during an interview on Audacy's "It's Always Gameday in Buffalo" podcast.
Jets Country has chosen the six most-appealing primetime opponents for the Green & White in 2023.
The three NFL.com panelists who tabbed the Jets as their top primetime team seem to agree with North on the attractiveness of Gang Green's list of opponents.
Senior writer Jeffri Chadiha kicked it off by taking the Jets and writing:
"There was plenty of anticipation about Aaron Rodgers joining the Jets, and there will be even more now that he actually is their starting quarterback. The schedule also sets up for some high-stakes contests. Along with the annual AFC East opponents, the Jets will meet the Eagles, Chiefs, Giants, Chargers and Cowboys. All of those teams made the playoffs last year. All will create entertaining matchups for Rodgers and his new teammates."
Next, NFL Network reporter Judy Battista jumped on Gang Green with the following explanation:
"Yes, they have Aaron Rodgers with perhaps a tiny chip on his shoulder, trying to make the Jets' lone Lombardi Trophy a little less lonely. Add to that the fact that the Jets have a boffo slate of opponents. Dates with the Chiefs, Eagles, Chargers, Cowboys, Giants, Bills and Dolphins (twice each with those last two divisional foes) are marquee games on the league calendar. Who doesn't want to see Rodgers vs. Patrick Mahomes, and Rodgers vs. Jalen Hurts, and Rodgers vs. Josh Allen? Keep going and that's a pretty great prime-time lineup."
Former NFL running back Maurice Jones-Drew put the spotlight on the Jets by saying:
"The Jets have had their sights set on prime time all offseason long, and now that Aaron Rodgers is in the building, it only feels fitting to put them under the lights. They don't just have Aa-Rod, though. This team features both reigning Rookies of the Year in Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner, a pass rush that's second to none, a fiery head coach in Robert Saleh and a few extra ex-Packers for good measure. The drama is about to unfold, for better or worse, and it should happen in the spotlight for all to see."
The 2023 NFL Schedule powered by AWS will be released in its entirety on NFL Network May 11 at 8:00 PM ET. The NFL has already announced its 2023 International Game Series and will unveil additional select games over the next 36 hours.
