WATCH: Downward spiral continues for former Jets rookie Jachai Polite
Jachai Polite's young NFL career just got dealt another blow, reinforcing the draft mistake made by the New York Jets.
The Seattle Seahawks elected to part ways with the rookie linebacker, releasing him from their practice squad on Monday, according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.
This comes less than a month after the Jets released Polite on Aug. 31. The Jets drafted Polite with the 68th pick in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll issued a brief statement on the matter, per the Seattle Times' Bob Condotta.
Despite concerns about his maturity and a poor overall showing at the NFL Scouting Combine, the Jets believed Polite was a steal as a third-rounder and a key piece for the future.
The Florida product amassed 11 sacks in 2018 en route to earning First-Team All-SEC honors.
However, the production has yet to translate to the pro level.
Polite struggled in training camp and in the preseason, as he mostly took snaps with the third team for the Jets. Polite concluded the preseason with 107 snaps, four tackles, three hurries, no QB hits and no sacks.
To make matters worse, according to a league source from Florio, the Jets fined Polite over $100K for "tardiness and other issues regarding doing things he shouldn’t have done or not doing things he should have been doing."
Polite was given a $1.122 million signing bonus by the Jets from his draft position.
Polite went unclaimed off waivers before being picked up by the Seahawks. Prior to Monday's release by the Seahawks, Florio reports no other teams have expressed interest in acquiring Polite for an active roster spot.
While his potential suitors remain to be seen, there's still plenty of time for the 21-year-old Polite to resurrect his career. If Polite doesn't clean up his act though, it won't matter what he does on the field.
