WATCH: Jets safety Jamal Adams selected for NFL All-Analytics Team
The numbers don't lie when it comes to Jamal Adams.
In 2018, the Jets strong safety recorded 115 combined tackles, 3.5 sacks and an interception en route to making the Pro Bowl in just his second season.
However, a deeper dive into Adams' stats reveals even more of the impact the rising star made last season, as he was recently chosen for the NFL Network's All-Analytics Team by expert Cynthia Frelund.
The team was selected based on individual contribution metric, which is a numerical value that adds or subtracts every player's effect on their team's opportunity to win games on each snap.
Here's what Frelund had to say about Adams:
Adams' versatility and ability to grow showed up big in his second season. He would line up close to the line of scrimmage on first down; he lined up as a slot corner; he lined up as a center fielder. And Adams amassed the most disruptions (24) and offensive-success stops (46) amongst safeties. Among safeties who faced at least 30 targets, my computer vision model shows Adams allowed the lowest completion percentage (50%, or 25 receptions allowed on 50 targets faced) among safeties. No Jets player had a greater win contribution metric than Adams last season.
Amazing details citing how valuable Adams is on defense. The fact that Adams has the highest win contribution metric on the Jets is a testament to not only his talent but his smarts. The 23-year-old Adams has excellent football IQ and is masterful at breaking down film.
It's going to be fun for fans and scary for opponents to witness the next step in Adams' development under new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.
Jets fans already knew by the eye test that Adams was special but this data proves he has the potential to be a defensive force for years to come.
