Weather Causes Jets' Joint Practice Cancellation
The New York Jets have encountered inclement weather threats during their trip to Spartanburg, SC.
After battling the Carolina Panthers in a joint training camp practice on Wednesday, the Jets won't run it back on Thursday. Heavy thunderstorms forecast to hit Wofford College prompted team officials, on both sides, to cancel the August 10 session.
"Today’s joint practice with the Panthers has been canceled due to weather and safety concerns," said the Jets through an official statement.
One day prior to the washout, Gang Green was able to get some beneficial work while going up against a different opponent.
Multiple players welcomed the change of scenery.
"In training camp, it gets kind of repetitive. You're going against the same guys everyday. So, we're going down to Carolina today. We're looking to go down and compete our butts off," said second-year safety Tony Adams before departing New Jersey.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers reflected upon the experience after Wednesday's practice.
"I thought it was good to be out there against a different defense. I thought we handled the front pretty well in the run game. Pass game, there were some issues," said the four-time NFL MVP.
Rodgers, who saw plenty of heat from the Panthers' pass rush throughout the day, was able to connect with Allen Lazard for about a 60-yard touchdown pass down the right sideline in what was the top highlight for the Jets' offense.
For the fans who followed the Jets down south, they'll have to wait until Saturday for more football action. Gang Green and the Panthers will contest a preseason game at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on August 12 at 4:00 pm ET. NFL Network will carry the proceedings live.
UPDATE: The Jets have elected to hold their own practice in Spartanburg on Thursday at 10:45 am ET. There will be no fans, but the session is open to the media.
