Week 12 Injury Update: Jets' Slot CB Still Sidelined, Two Offensive Tackles Upgraded
It appears as if the challenge is steep for Michael Carter II as he tries to get himself ready to play in the first-ever NFL Black Friday Game.
The New York Jets' starting slot cornerback was a non-participant in practice for the second day in a row as the team preps for the Miami Dolphins on a short week. Carter II initially landed on the injury report late last week prior to the Buffalo trip, and subsequently missed his first game of the season due to a hamstring issue. In Carter's absence, backup Brandin Echols saw 57 defensive snaps against the Bills.
"Michael got hurt and had a hammy during Friday’s practice within the first period," said Jets' head coach Robert Saleh on Monday.
Carter II accounted for the Jets' lone DNP on Wednesday's injury report.
In a positive development, starting left tackle Mekhi Becton was upgraded to a limited participant after not practicing on Tuesday. The 6-foot-7 bookend started all 10 games thus far this season before suffering an ankle injury late in the first quarter against the Bills.
"He’s trying to go for Friday, so he’s working through it," said Saleh on Tuesday.
In the portion of Wednesday's practice open to media, Becton was spotted working with a limp.
A total of nine Jets improved their status from Tuesday's walkthrough. Veteran offensive tackle Billy Turner, who has missed back-to-back games due to a surgically-repaired finger, was upgraded from limited to full participant on Wednesday.
Safety Tony Adams and receiver Garrett Wilson were amongst those fully participating. Adams dislocated a pinky finger while diving to defend a pass against the Bills. He eventually returned after leaving the game to receive medical attention. Wilson, who has been nursing an elbow injury, played through discomfort in Week 11.
Edge rushers Jermaine Johnson and John Franklin-Myers also went from limited to full.
The Jets (4-6) host the Dolphins (7-3) on November 24 at 3:00 pm ET.
