What to Expect when Jets Host Patriots PLUS How to Watch Key AFC East Matchup
It's as important as any early-season divisional battle can be.
The New York Jets can move to 2-0 in AFC East games while sending the New England Patriots to 0-3 overall in the process. A win would certainly serve as a huge confidence boost for embattled quarterback Zach Wilson while proving that the Jets can contend even without Aaron Rodgers at the controls.
A win would also be the first for Gang Green in nearly eight years. The franchise has lost the last 14 head-to-head meetings against Bill Belichick's Pats.
"It’s New England and it’s a division game and the past is the past, but all our focus is on today," said Jets' third-year head coach Robert Saleh on Wednesday in Florham Park. "Trying to be our best version of ourselves, so we can find a way to get this one on Sunday."
The Jets and Pats will square off on September 24 at MetLife Stadium with a 1:00 pm ET kickoff on CBS. Jim Nantz (play-by-play), Tony Romo (analyst) and Tracy Wolfson (sidelines) will have the call from East Rutherford.
New England enters Sunday's game coming off back-to-back one-score home losses to the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins.
The Patriots average 4.5 yards per offensive play and the team has recorded 47 total first downs in two games. They'll go up against a Jets' defense that allowed the Dallas Cowboys to move the chains 26 times, including a 9-for-18 sample on third down, in a Week 2 road loss.
"Defensively, they're aggressive," said Belichick on Wednesday. "They have a real good front, disruptive front. They play about nine guys up there and they all play. They're all disruptive."
Belichick proceeded to highlight veteran linebacker C.J. Mosley as the unit's leader.

"I think Mosley's really the guy, really a key guy for them on the defense. He's one of the best, and most-instinctive, players in the league. Always a problem," said Belichick.
It could wind up being a defensive slugfest on Sunday in the Meadowlands. Not only has Jets' quarterback Zach Wilson had a tough time in four career meetings with the Patriots, but inclement weather has been forecasted for the area.
Remnants of Tropical Storm Ophelia may result in a wet, windy afternoon at MetLife Stadium.
"As Ophelia's center approaches, scattered moderate to heavy rain will pick up again Saturday night into Sunday morning. Sunday will still be windy, although I suspect less gusty than on Saturday," wrote NJ 101.5 chief meteorologist Dan Zarrow on his usually-accurate weather blog.
