2023 Jets Country Player Profile: S Trey Dean (38)

Meet every player on the New York Jets' 90-man roster through our preseason series

Trey Dean is arguably the most intriguing undrafted rookie prospect around the National Football League this summer.

The New York Jets' first-year safety has piled up five years' worth of achievements while competing collegiately in the Southeastern Conference.

The 6-foot-2 Dean, who logged 62 career appearances for the Florida Gators, has the strength and intelligence to patrol an NFL defensive backfield, but his draft stock plummeted when he ran the slowest 40-yard dash of all safeties participating at the NFL Combine.

The five-time SEC Academic Honor Roll qualifier wound up with a sixth-round draft grade, but was forced to go the UDFA route. After not hearing his name called, Dean inked a contract that features $100,000 in guaranteed money, including a $10,000 signing bonus (according to OverTheCap).

Reason to overlook Dean's 4.75-second 40, the battle-tested 23-year-old won the East West Shrine Bowl Defensive MVP award and led his position group at the Combine by registering 25 reps on the 225-pound bench press.

While at Florida, Dean showed a knack for producing in "big" games. This past year, he made four stops and 1.0 tackle-for-loss in the Las Vegas Bowl. Dean also accounted for an impressive stat line against eventual National Champion Georgia — five tackles, 1.0 TFL, a fumble recovery, a quarterback hurry and two pass break-ups.

In 2020, Dean made four solo stops and picked off a pass against Alabama in the SEC Championship Game before a six-tackle effort against Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl.

In a recent FanNation All 32 league-wide post, Dean represented the Jets as the UDFA with the best chance of making the regular season roster.
