The Detroit Lions have achieved their success over the last two seasons thanks in large part to the performance of quarterback Jared Goff.

The veteran passer has enjoyed a career renaissance over the last two seasons in particular, and has driven the team to new heights as a result. Now, entering the final year of his contract, there are questions about what a new extension will look like for the California native.

On Tuesday, during his first press conference of the team's offseason workouts, Goff was mum on where he and the team stood on a potential long-term deal for him to remain in Detroit.

"There's been discussions, but I'll leave it at that," Goff said.

Though the veteran has been tight-lipped on where he stands in terms of contract negotiations, he remained steadfast in his desire to remain in Detroit. The passer was careful not to say too much, as he has left the negotiations up to his agent.

"You never want to like say something, there's discussions," Goff explained. "Brad's said what he's said to you guys and I'll say the same thing. There's been discussions. My agent's on top of it, he's doing a good job and I trust those guys."

'It's about what's next'

Goff has excelled over the last two campaigns and ranked among the Top 5 quarterbacks in passing yards and touchdowns last season.

After struggling in his first year with the Lions, he has leveled up as the team has quickly ascended to among the league's best. As a result, he's endeared himself to the fan base. That appreciation is reciprocated, as Goff has expressed the desire to remain with the Lions for the foreseeable future.

"Yeah, it's been amazing. Yeah, I love it here and would love to be here for a long time," Goff stated. "It's been really, really special, like I mentioned, playing in front of these fans and being able to provide, you know, a winning culture in the last year and a half or so. To see them experience that and be able to be a part of that has been fun. But by no means are we satisfied or happy to be here or any of that. It's about what's next."

After last season's playoff push, Goff has been able to experience the gratitude from a passionate fan base such as the Lions. Because of this, he's been able to view the team's success in a whole new light.

"Yeah, it's been fun. The last three years have been really fun. Not always easy, but fun and hard and I've been surrounded by a lot of good teammates and coaches that have helped me realize some of my potential. And hopefully there's still a lot more there," Goff said. "But yeah, I've had a ton of fun, winning in this city and winning for these fans.

"Something that I've, this offseason has been so cool to go around and just the amount of people that have been really heartfelt about what winning here, we didn't win the Super Bowl but winning the playoff game, making the playoffs, how heartfelt they've been. Saying thank you and all that. I'm like, 'Woah, I'm just playing football.' But, you know, people are obviously really passionate here. That's been the most rewarding part, playing for the fan base here that cares so much, the city that cares so much."
