Rod Wood Has Bold Opinion of Lions' New Uniforms
The Detroit Lions will unveil their new look next week.
Detroit has already confirmed that it will release its new uniforms on April 18, which is exactly one week before the NFL Draft kicks off. The organization is holding a uniform reveal party at Ford Field.
Excitement is building regarding Detroit's new uniforms and what they could look like, as fans are anxious to see the Lions' new jerseys that they'll wear for the foreseeable future.
On Thursday, Lions' team president Rod Wood set the bar high during an appearance at the Detroit Economic Club's NFL Draft Panel by stating he has high expectations for the new look. WXYZ-TV sports director Brad Galli served as the panel's moderator.
"I think our goal was to honor the past -- we have great colors, we have great history -- but also put a modern twist on it," Wood said. "So I think when you see them, you'll see both of those things. And you'll see, hopefully, uniforms that propel us for at least the next five years to be one of the great uniforms in the NFL. And we're never going to change them dramatically, but there's always an opportunity to modernize them and I think people will see that."
The process of designing new uniforms has been a lengthy one. Wood explained that Brian Facchini and Mike Disner were among the biggest communicators with Nike throughout the process as the team helped put together its new look.
The Lions also have the opportunity to utilize a third helmet shell beginning this season, as the NFL recently passed a memo allowing teams to add to their helmet counts.
