2023 Stat Prediction for Jack Campbell
Detroit Lions rookie linebacker Jack Campbell enters the 2023 season with a great deal of expectations.
Campbell, the No. 18 overall pick in this past April's draft, is expected to contribute right away as the Lions' starting strongside linebacker.
The 6-foot-5, 246-pounder is coming off an impressive senior campaign at Iowa. He recorded 128 total tackles, including 5.5 for loss, along with three passes defensed, two interceptions, one forced fumble and a sack.
In his final season with the Hawkeyes, he also graded out well with Pro Football Focus. In fact, he received an 85.6 grade against the run and a 92.9 mark in coverage.
Additionally, for his efforts during the 2022 campaign, he was the recipient of the Butkus Award, which is annually awarded to college football's best linebacker.
Collectively, Campbell produced 305 total tackles, including 13.5 for loss, in four seasons and 43 career games (28 starts) with the Hawkeyes.
Detroit linebackers coach Kelvin Sheppard is excited for the impact that Campbell will have on the team's linebackers room.
"It's exceptional what this player can do at his size. But, for me, it's really the thing that jumps him above some other guys, in my opinion, is his passion," Sheppard said of Campbell, after the Iowa product was drafted by the Lions. "The way it drives him, you see it. He speaks it, he lives and he's not one of these guys that when things are good, he's up. He's up all the time, because he loves it.
"And, I think that's what makes him special, and what kind of pushed him up, I know, in my mind, above some of those other guys who might have had the same talent or it was kind of in the same bucket of people. He is a Detroit guy, like he is a (Lions head coach) Dan Campbell guy."
In Campbell's first year as a pro, I'm projecting the former Iowa linebacker to amass 95 total tackles, including 3.5 for loss, as well as three passes defensed, one interception, a forced fumble and a lone sack.
