After Claiming Division, Lions 'Fighting' for No. 2 Seed
The Detroit Lions are attempting to quickly turn the page following one of their most memorable victories in franchise history.
After claiming a division title, the Lions will now be tasked with competing for the top seed in the NFC.
Head coach Dan Campbell expressed to reporters that he would make his young team aware and to focus on what is controllable, fighting for the No. 2 overall seed in the conference.
"We've checked the box on one thing and now it's to the next one. And so, at this point now, we're fighting for the two seed," Campbell stated. "And look, if you're able to get to the one, so be it. But right now, what we know that we can achieve on our own is the two. That's no easy task. We've got to go to Dallas, they haven't lost in I don't know how many games at home.
"They play really well there, it'll be loud but we're looking forward to it. I'm looking forward to going out there and playing a really good opponent at their place again."
Detroit has the opportunity to end the 2023 regular season with the No. 1 overall seed, but it would require assistance from the San Francisco 49ers.
The Lions do not appear to be a team that will bask in the glow of success for far too long.
While winning the division is a feather in the cap, the vast majority of NFL players want to experience postseason success.
"It's been fun, it's been cool. You try to soak it in, you try to enjoy it. The old 24-hour rule win or lose and you try to treat it that way," Goff explained. "Yeah, it's been exciting. The city's excited, we're excited. I know the fans are thrilled, we get a home playoff game at the very least. With that being said, like I said earlier, we've got so much more in front of us that we want to accomplish. We're very happy with winning the division but by no means satisfied or content. Got a lot to do still but it'll be fun."
