Aidan Hutchinson Says Jared Goff Does Not Get 'Credit He Deserves'
Aidan Hutchinson is fired up heading into his second NFL season.
Detroit's defensive line, led by Hutchinson, James Houston and Alim McNeill, has the potential to be a formidable unit for the next several seasons.
After a solid rookie campaign, Hutchinson is ready to tackle new challenges and elevated expectations.
Recently appearing on the "Green Light" podcast, the 2022 No. 2 overall pick discussed Jared Goff, playing for Dan Campbell and whether he has been following the Aaron Rodgers saga.
From the outside, it appears Goff has a calm, cool demeanor. Hutchinson credited the veteran signal-caller with being very detailed-oriented and said that his preparation allowed him to pick apart opposing defenses.
"Jared is one of those guys that he seems laid back, you know. And, when you see him, he's kind of the Cali boy with the -- he's just kind of got that demeanor about him. But, man, he's got so much attention to detail," said Hutchinson. "I've walked into the quarterback room a couple of times and just to hear them talk, as I like to hear how those guys think and stuff like that. Man, the way he breaks stuff down with defenses even. It's no wonder why he's picking defenses apart, especially last year. He had a great year, and it was fun watching him. I think he doesn't get the credit that he deserves."
Privilege playing for Dan Campbell
Many players who have discussed playing for Detroit's third-year head coach express just how effective he is as a leader and how impactful team meetings can be.
Hutchinson explained, when asked about being in meetings with Campbell, "Just being a player, I'm just happy I got the privilege to be sitting in on some of those meetings, because he's pulling some analogy out and reworking it into some game-time scenario. So, yeah, man, I'm all about it. And, what you see is what you get with Dan Campbell."
Rookie dinner
Hutchinson indicated he has heard rookies on the Lions having massive dinner bills when it is their time to treat teammates to a meal.
For Hutchinson, having Josh Paschal split the bill made his rookie dinner bill very manageable.
"It ended up being about $11,000 total," said Hutchinson. "And actually, we had a second-rounder, too, so we ended up splitting it."
Aaron Rodgers saga
Like many followers of the NFL, Hutchinson has been paying attention to the news surrounding future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
"I feel like there was so much buzz going on with Aaron Rodgers about two weeks ago, and I haven't heard anything since," Hutchinson said. "And, I don't know honestly, I don't even know what's going on. I mean, we were 2-0 against the Packers last year. ... So, if they bring him back, I'm all about a little competition. I know he's going to bring it and stuff."
