Alex Anzalone's Contract Details Revealed
Many supporters of the Detroit Lions were quite curious how the new contract of linebacker Alex Anzalone was structured.
Typically, free-agent contracts are filed quickly, giving supporters a reasonable understanding of how a player's new deal impacts the salary cap.
With Anzalone, a couple days passed, causing some to speculate about the agreement that the veteran came to with the Lions.
The 28-year-old's contract is for three years and $18.75 million, with one additional voided year in 2026 to spread out the overall cap hit.
Anzalone will receive a $4.8 million signing bonus. His contract also includes a per-game roster bonus of $100,000 each season. There is potential for the Lions to get out of the deal in 2025, but the team would incur dead-cap costs of $2.4 million.
After signing his new multi-year deal, Anzalone expressed to reporters that he finally found a NFL home, with a new sense of security.
"It's a sense of relief," Anzalone said. "And also, it's a sense of you being yourself, too. All the walls are down. In this league, you don't want to get burned emotionally, so you try to keep no strings attached as much as possible. But, I really feel like I've found a home."
2023 base salary: $1.2 million ($2.5 million cap hit)
2024 base salary: $6 million ($7.3 million cap hit)
2025 base salary: $6 million ($7.3 million cap hit)
