Lions QB Tim Boyle Signs with Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears have poached a quarterback from their NFC North rival.
According to reports, Detroit Lions quarterback Tim Boyle has been signed off of the practice squad.
After a rough stretch during training camp, Boyle was relegated to the team's practice squad this season, and will now join the Bears' active roster.
Both Boyle and David Blough did not make the team's 53-man active roster, after subpar training camp performances.
The team also intended to bring back Blough, but he instead chose to play with the Minnesota Vikings, joining their practice squad at the beginning of the 2022 season.
After beginning his NFL career with Green Bay, Boyle signed to play in Detroit in 2021.
His first season in Motown saw the aspiring starting quarterback start three games in relief of an injured Jared Goff.
Unfortunately, his performances left a lot to be desired, as he completed 61-of-94 passes (64.9%) for 526 yards. He only tossed three touchdowns, against six interceptions.
The 28-year-old signal-caller worked with current Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy in Green Bay.
In the offseason, Detroit general manager Brad Holmes gave Boyle a one-year, $2 million contract extension, with $1.75 million in guaranteed monies.
