Best Bet: David Montgomery Shines in Lions Debut

Here is a Detroit Lions bet that could add money to your bankroll!

The Detroit Lions are featuring two new running backs when they take the field on Thursday evening against the Kansas City Chiefs.

One intriguing question that will begin to get answered is who will be the primary red zone target this season.

Last season, Jamaal Williams recorded 17 rushing touchdowns, capping off many drives with six points.

Play Michigan lead writer Drew Ellis sees new running back David Montgomery being a factor for Detroit, especially in the red zone.

Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs have the potential to quickly become a formidable duo early in their tenure in Motown.

Ellis tells All Lions, "A lot has been made about the addition of Jahmyr Gibbs through the NFL Draft, but the signing of David Montgomery was a big addition to the backfield as well. Built similar to Jamaal Williams (5’11”, 224lbs.), I expect Montgomery to play that Williams role in the 2023 season. Montgomery will be the primary ball carrier that sets the tone for the ground game and also gets the most looks near the goal line.

"Williams had 17 rushing touchdowns last season for a new franchise record. With Chris Jones not suiting up for Kansas City, Detroit should be able to attack this Chiefs’ defensive front and let Montgomery do some damage on the ground," Ellis explained further. "That includes at the goal line. That is why my best bet is Montgomery scoring a touchdown against the Chiefs in the opener. (+130). If you’re feeling really froggy, Montgomery to score twice (+750) is enticing as well.”
