Commanders Hire Former Lions Senior Director of Player Personnel
The Washington Commanders have added an experienced and well-respected member of the scouting community to their organization.
According to ESPN, Lance Newmark will be joining the Commanders to serve as their assistant general manager.
After five seasons as the Detroit Lions' Director of Player Personnel, Newmark served as the Senior Director of Player Personnel the past two seasons, working under general manager Brad Holmes.
Newmark brings with him to Washington nearly three decades of experience in the NFL, having spent 26 years in Detroit and 28 years overall working in the league.
“Lance is someone that I have known and respected in the scouting community my entire career,” said new Commanders GM Adam Peters, via NFL insider Adam Schefter. “He is a highly respected talent evaluator and a great leader who will fit perfectly into what we’re building here in Washington. I want to thank Brad Holmes and the Lions organization for being first class in working with us on the process of bringing Lance to the DMV. Lance is a phenomenal person, and he will immediately elevate our overall personnel function here at the Commanders. It is my absolute pleasure to welcome Lance and his family to Washington.”
With Detroit, the experienced front office director played a key part in the Lions' draft and free-agency strategies.
His rise up the ranks with Detroit has helped aid Dan Campbell's squad in becoming an NFC contender.
After a slow start to the 2022 season, Detroit finished with a 9-8 record, and almost secured a playoff berth.
In 2023, Detroit finished with a 12-5 record, and was eliminated in the NFC Championship Game after being defeated by the 49ers.
