Dan Campbell: I Feel Wind Underneath My Freakin' Wings

Dan Campbell does not feel any additional pressure due to Ford Field sellout.

Detroit Lions fans are no doubt excited for the season to begin.

The Ford Field crowd will get their first look at the 2023 edition of the team on Friday when they host the New York Giants for a preseason showdown.

The passion that the fans have for the team was reflected earlier this week, when it was announced that, for the first time in the history of Ford Field, the Lions had sold out of season tickets.

For some, this may create pressure to perform and live up to expectations. Yet, third-year coach Dan Campbell is embracing the fan support.

"No, I don't feel weight, I feel wind underneath my freakin wings," Campbell said. "That's what I feel. Truthfully."

"I love this, man. This is outstanding.I love our fans, I love that, man, they feel it like we feel it," the coach later stated. "This is not a burden, this is not pressure, this is not weight, this is, man, this gives me inspiration is what it does for me."

New training staff

The Detroit Lions added new faces to their training staff heading into the 2023 season.

So far, Campbell has been pleased with what he's seen from the likes of the new faces on his staff. He praised their ability to handle the rehabilitation of the injured players on roster.

"They've done great. I love (Brett Fischer) and Mike Sundeen, our head trainer. I think we have a clear vision on, really, getting these players recovery, rehabilitation," Campbell explained. "I think we push the boundaries of modern medicine in a good way, but we're smart about it. I think the combination of those guys and Mike Clark, who's the head of our sports performance, those guys all together man, I think we're doing some really good things, man. I think it's gonna pay dividends as the season gets closer."

Notes

1.) The Lions signed wide receiver Avery Davis and waived defensive lineman Zach Morton.

Davis is coming off a torn ACL that ended his final season at Notre Dame in spring practice. He totaled 386 yards and four scores the year prior, so expectations were high for him the following season before the injury.

Morton, an undrafted free agent out of Akron, was deep on the team's depth chart early in camp.
