Watch: Dan Campbell Gets Emotional Discussing Sacrifice of Players

Dan Campbell appreciates players that have suited up for Lions.

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell does not take for granted the players who suit up and play a tough, physical brand of football.

Now in his third season at the helm in Motown, Campbell and the roster have upgraded at several key spots.

Detroit's front office and Campbell were aware the team needed to be stripped down to the studs, essentially starting from square one.

The first year saw Campbell's squad only finish with three victories.

In his second season, rumblings regarding the potential for Campbell and Co. to not have success in Motown started to increase, as the team started with a 1-6 record.

Owner Sheila Hamp gave Campbell and his coaching staff a vote of confidence, indicating to reporters she had trust in the process that was established to turnaround the fortunes of a franchise that was seeking new leadership and a new culture.

Speaking to ESPN ahead of the Lions Monday Night Football contest against the Las Vegas Raiders, Campbell expressed appreciation for the members of the roster, even during a lean season back in 2021.

"We didn't quite have the horses we've got now. But those guys, talk about laying it on the line," said Campbell. "Going toe-to-toe with anybody. And willing to fight to the end. I'll never forget those guys."

Detroit's head coach is amongst the most popular leaders in the National Football League.

His appreciation for his staff and players have now made Detroit a destination free agents will consider, when they are weighing their playing options.
