What Dan Campbell Said About Will Harris Is Making Headlines

Detroit Lions coaching staff have expressed trust in defensive back Will Harris.

Defensive back Will Harris has strong support from defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and head coach Dan Campbell. 

Entering his fifth NFL season, Detroit's former 2019 third round draft pick is a player that allows Campbell to sleep well at night. 

"I love Will Harris, I do. Because he's a pro," said Campbell. "He's a vet, you don't have to worry about Will. Will's gonna be where he's supposed to be when he's supposed to be there. He's a four-corps guy for us. 

"He's played safety, he can play nickel, he can play outside corner and he's just steady and reliable," Campbell explained further. "He's dependable man, he's always gonna be there for you. That's one of the biggest reasons, guys like him help you sleep good at night." 

The 27-year-old has been asked to play multiple positions in Detroit's defense with a varying degree of results.

Playing in the slot has proven to aid Detroit's defense, as Harris' coverage skills from the nickel position have improved. 

“I could’ve never imagined my rookie year being kinda where I am now,” Harris told reporters after practice. “I just have the upmost respect for the guys in this building. I appreciate them for even putting me on this platform to be able to play in meaningful games at these different roles. Wherever I’m needed, that’s where I’m going to play and I’m going to be productive there. And go all out, bro.”

Watching film and putting in the time studying has aided the veteran defensive back steadily improve over the last couple of seasons. 

“I put so much work into studying my craft and studying our opponent. It’s just by the time we end up playing, it’s second nature."

Playing multiple positions in Glenn's defense means additional film study, a part of the game Harris relishes. 

"You got to study. You got to stay in your book," said Harris. "You got to stay in the film room and just know you got to go over every situation I could possibly be in as a corner. Then you got to start all over again and do the whole film session and everything in every situation I could possibly be in as a nickel or a safety. So, it’s definitely a lot more studying and a lot more time in the film room. But that’s something that I pride myself on as a pro.”
