David Montgomery Inactive against Falcons, Buggs Returns
The Detroit Lions are going to rely on rookie running back Jahmyr Gibbs against the Atlanta Falcons, as veteran running back David Montgomery has been ruled inactive.
Against the Seattle Seahawks, the ex-Bears running back suffered a thigh bruise, which resulted in his inability to practice all week ahead of Detroit's Week 3 contest at Ford Field.
“Well, I think they’re both unique because you feel like they have so much versatility. And I think that’s where, when you feel like a guy can do multiple jobs, certainly can carry it in the backfield and do multiple different, multiple schemes as a runner, but then man, they have the ability out of the backfield as a route runner, you can split them out and do some things as a receiver. And then they’ve got this explosive speed, burst, all those things. It falls back into that weaponry. And I think that’s what makes them so unique, both of them.”
With Detroit's pass-rush struggling to rack of sack totals, the coaching staff has decided to mix up the lineup.

Isaiah Buggs, who has been inactive the first two weeks of the season, will make his 2023 season debut against a team that has won their first two games of the season.
Head coach Dan Campbell indicated the veteran defensive lineman accepted being benched, but continued to work towards working his way back into the lineup.
"Buggs has been a pro," said Campbell. "He’s been a pro and right before the Kansas City game, he told me, came to me and said, ‘Hey, Coach, I’m going to do whatever I’ve got to do and I’m going to keep working. And I know the deal and I’m going to show you guys.’ And he’s going to get an opportunity.”
