Detroit Lions Have 'High Grade' on Texas Tech EDGE Tyree Wilson

Detroit Lions have spent extensive time researching pass-rushers.

The Detroit Lions may end up having a tough decision when it is their turn to hand in their draft card for the No. 6 pick this year.

After the defensive line took a step forward in 2022, the personnel department has worked to sift through the many talented defensive line prospects coming out of college this year.

Also, Detroit general manager Brad Holmes may decide to target a different position, including cornerback or a developmental quarterback to learn behind Jared Goff

In a recent ESPN report breaking down the latest NFL Draft buzz, Texas Tech EDGE rusher Tyree Wilson was discussed as a potential Lions target.

"The Lions selected Aidan Hutchinson at No. 2 overall last year, but that won't necessarily keep them from selecting another defensive end early in the 2023 draft," writes draft analyst Matt Miller. "I've heard they really like Tyree Wilson (Texas Tech) and have a high grade on him."

Detroit's defense ranked 32nd overall and 29th against the run in 2022.

New Lions defensive line coach John Scott is encouraged that he can aid the unit in taking the next step forward.

"The guys are eager and excited and ready to build upon where they stopped last year," Scott told reporters this week. "For me, that's so encouraging as a coach, because I'm ready to help them get to where they want to go."

A review of film indicates that Wilson can shed opposing linemen quickly, and stuff the run effectively.

"The Lions have spent considerable time and resources meeting with and working out pass-rushers this offseason, and they will be seeking more help on defense right out of the gate in Round 1," Miller explained. "Wilson ranks No. 8 overall on my board and is the second-best edge rusher in the class. He's a slight reach at No. 6 but could turn the Lions' D-line into a serious strength."
