Detroit Lions Mock Draft Simulation 3.0
The Detroit Lions have the potential to draft one of the top defensive back prospects coming out of college.
Despite signing Cam Sutton, Emmanuel Moseley and C.J. Gardner-Johnson in free agency, the team can still target a cornerback with pick No. 6. Remember, Lions general manager Brad Holmes has another first-round pick -- pick No. 18 -- to improve the roster.
In our third Lions PFF mock draft simulation, Holmes and Co. make the decision to add more talent to the secondary.
Cornerback Devon Witherspoon said at his recent workout that he would relish the opportunity to join Detroit's roster, as fellow Illinois product Kerby Joseph had success playing in Aaron Glenn's defense a season ago.
“That’d be fire to be able to be with my dawg. Our chemistry, it’s like we already know what we’re going to do out there on the field," said Witherspoon. "He’s always behind me, I got everything in front of him. That would be dope, though, to be on a team with my dawg, for sure."
Ahead of the Lions' second pick in the first round, wideout Quentin Johnston, offensive lineman Peter Skoronski and EDGE rusher Myles Murphy were already off the board.
Calijah Kancey joining Detroit's defensive line gives Glenn and the coaching staff a prospect who has been compared to Aaron Donald all throughout the pre-draft process.
TCU guard Steve Avila did not allow a single sack in 515 pass-blocking snaps in his final collegiate season.
With the Lions not having any guards signed to the roster beyond 2023, Holmes decides to add another guard in the sixth round.
Despite reports of Teddy Bridgewater being offered a contract in free agency, quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson is the choice to become the developmental quarterback of the future.
Last season, the Bruins signal-caller tossed for 3,169 yards, and threw 27 touchdowns. On the ground, he secured 645 yards and 12 touchdowns.
With the Lions' final selection in the draft (No. 194 overall), kicker Jake Moody is selected to set off a healthy kicking competition all throughout training camp.
