Detroit Lions Week 7 Thursday Injury Report
The Detroit Lions are getting a little healthier, after having to address the loss of key players the past couple of weeks.
Defensive back Brian Branch told reporters after practice Thursday he expects to suit up in Week 7 against another formidable opponent in the Baltimore Ravens.
Jahmyr Gibbs, who also returned to the practice field this week, will have opportunities to showcase his development, as veteran David Montgomery is expected to miss another week of action dealing with a rib cartilage injury.
Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson indicated that while losing the former Bears running was significant, the team trusts the other members of the roster to step up whenever their opportunity presents itself.
"They'll get plenty of opportunities here in practice to get the experience they need for the game," Johnson said before practice. "(Montgomery) is a major blow, he was a bell cow for us. But like we've had so often already this year, in the receiver room and the O-line room, someone will step up and rise to the occasion, there's no doubt about it."
Left guard Jonah Jackson was also a non-participant at practice for the second consecutive day.
Kayode Awosika filled in against the Buccaneers.
"I would say it was solid. It was solid," said Dan Campbell. "Look, that’s the first time this year he goes in there and bangs away. That’s a dang good unit, really good D-line. And there was some good and there was some that wasn’t so good, but I thought all-in-all, man, he really competed in there and gave us a chance. And so, I thought it was positive. ..."
