Detroit Lions Waive Three Players

The Detroit Lions have made the decision to waive three players before rookie minicamp.

Ahead of their 2023 rookie minicamp, the Detroit Lions have made the decision to waive three players.

The team announced wide receiver Stanley Berryhill, defensive lineman Demetrius Taylor and cornerback Mac McCain have been let go.

Recall, Berryhill was among the players suspended by the NFL for violating the league's gambling policy, along with Jameson Williams.

While Williams did not bet on NFL games, the violation resulted in a six-game suspension to start the upcoming season.

It was determined that Williams and Berryhill placed wagers at team facilities, which resulted in multi-game suspensions.

Taylor surprisingly made the Lions' 2022 roster, and played 13 snaps against New England.

Once Josh Paschal returned to the lineup healthy, though, Taylor spent the remaining part of the 2022 season on the practice squad.

Detroit also made the decision to draft Brodric Martin, giving up multiple draft selections in the process.

Taylor was undrafted, and played collegiately at Appalachian State.

With the moves made in free agency, McCain became more expendable. Playing time was going to be difficult to earn, especially after signing defensive backs C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Cam Sutton and drafting Brian Branch.
