Detroit Will Host 2024 NFL Draft

Detroit will be the host city for the 2024 NFL Draft.

It was officially announced that Detroit will host the 2024 NFL Draft, beating out Green Bay and Washington, which were also in the running.

The Lions organization has worked diligently to secure the draft in Detroit.

Principal owner Sheila Ford Hamp serves on the NFL's Super Bowl and major events advisory committee, which makes decisions where the draft will be held every year.

"This is a great day for us," Ford Hamp said. "It really is terrifically exciting. I think it will be huge for our wonderful city, to showcase itself and our fans. We are very, very proud."

If the weather cooperates, the draft will be held outside at Campus Martius Park.

Events will take place all across the city, as music events will be held at Ford Field and/or Little Caesars Arena.

"I think it would be great to host it at Ford Field," Lions president Rod Wood told the Detroit Free Press back in 2017. "You could get 50,000 people in here and make it kind of a raucous event. I think what’s going on in downtown Detroit, with the walkability of going to restaurants and bars and the energy that’s here. Big corporate sponsors of the NFL are headquartered in Detroit. I think the whole renaissance of downtown."

Wood commented further, "And then the other two things I think that are really in our favor is the location of Detroit, relative to other NFL cities, because we want to get as many teams here and their fans rooting for the draft. And, we’re centrally located, we’re close to obviously all of the Midwest cities, East coast cities, and then, the importance and proximity to college football."

The three-day experience will allow NFL fans from all over the country to visit the region, which should provide a solid economic impact to the area.

"The Draft has become a prominent offseason event across the country, and we are excited to work with the Lions and their partners to bring the 2024 NFL Draft to the Motor City," said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. "With the help of Visit Detroit, the Detroit Sports Commission, and the City of Detroit, the Lions' passionate fanbase and all visitors will be treated to an incredible three-day experience."

The upcoming 2022 draft will be held in Las Vegas, while the 2023 NFL Draft will be held in Kansas City.
