Fans Proclaim Jared Goff 'King of Detroit'
After defeating his old team, Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff was seen leaving Ford Field by excited supporters.
A video surfaced online of Detroit's starting quarterback sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle, being slowly driven away from the site of one of the team's best victories in franchise history.
Fans, in the video, let Goff know that they were elated the Lions were able to secure their first playoff win in 32 years.
"Let's go Jared. You're the King of Detroit, baby. You're the King of Detroit, baby," a fan said, as he approached the vehicle Goff was riding in.
Postgame, Goff shared with reporters that he had pictured what it would be like to win a playoff game in Detroit.
“Yeah, it was – almost it was surreal. It was something that you kind of imagined for so long," said Goff. "From the moment I got here, you imagine getting that playoff win and having this type of atmosphere in front of our home crowd, and being able to sit on the ball like that and finish it out. And yeah, it kind of all hit me there, and to be honest with you, I didn’t know it was over once we got the first down until they sent in the personnel, and then it kind of all hit me at once. But, yeah, kind of had to subdue a lot of emotions this week, and was able to kind of enjoy that moment.”
This past week was emotional for the 29-year-old, but his ability to deflect the attention regarding his past and tie to the L.A. Rams allowed the Lions to shine and win a tough playoff contest.
“Yeah, it was fine. Like I said earlier in the week, it was kind of tracking for this matchup for a while," Goff said. "So, I kind of had some time to get ready for the fanfare that would be, and I just kept going back to what this game was about, and it was about us. It was not about them.
"It was not about me, it was not about my history there. It wasn’t about anyone on their team or any coaches, it was about us. It was about the 53 in this locker room, our coaches and this organization getting a playoff win in front of our home crowd.”
Update: Jared Goff clarified during his Jan. 17 media session that this video was taken following a game "5-6 weeks ago."
