Frank Ragnow Navigating 'Most Severe Degree' Turf Toe
Detroit Lions center Frank Ragnow dealt with a nagging toe injury the entirety of the 2022 season.
“It’s a deal where it’s kind of inoperable, so it’s something we’re trying to navigate,” Ragnow said, via the Free Press. “But hopefully it’s not going to be anything near the altitude of last year, where it was, like, brutal."
The options for Detroit's offense, should Ragnow again battle injuries in 2023, are not that appealing.
Veteran Graham Glasgow, who signed a one-year free agent contract this offseason, is a much better guard than center and Ross Pierschbacher is inexperienced.
The hope is Detroit's training staff will aid in navigating Ragnow's workload, allowing the 27-year-old to quarterback the offensive line.
"Cause it’s like turf toe, right? It’s the most severe degree turf toe. It just depends on how it impacts different guys," Ragnow said at his charity week this week. "Like it’s different cause your sesmoid’s moving and stuff, but a lot of guys, they don’t even get the surgery so it just depends. But hopefully it scars over and that’s kind of how it’s been and it’s a lot better."
Ragnow is entering his sixth NFL season, all with the Lions, who selected him in the first-round of the 2018 draft.
