Gardner-Johnson Calls Out 49ers WR: 'You See Deebo Run'
Detroit Lions safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson continues to recover from a torn pec that has sidelined him for the foreseeable future. Still, the talented defensive back continues to be involved with the daily happenings around the NFL.
On Sunday, the Cleveland Browns upset the unbeaten San Francisco 49ers. Prior to the kickoff of that game, there was a scuffle that featured a number of significant players, including 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel.
Gardner-Johnson took to social media Sunday to show his disapproval of the receiver's behavior during the melee, chiding him for running away from the confrontation.
The two parties have a history with one another, as Gardner-Johnson's Philadelphia Eagles defeated Samuel's 49ers in last season's NFC championship game.
In the video, posted to the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), Samuel appears to step away from the confrontation when offensive tackle Trent Williams steps in against the Cleveland players.
"U see Deebo run," Gardner-Johnson said in a social media post. "Typical WR behavior... THEN ACT HARD WHEN TRENT (Williams) TRY TO SAVE HIM."
Samuel responded to the message, including a video of Gardner-Johnson being punched by Chicago Bears wide receiver Javon Wims in 2020 while he was a member of the New Orleans Saints.
"Boy, stop playing before you get a rewind of this ... boy, sit down," Samuel commented.
Gardner-Johnson offered a rebuttal to the video Sunday evening.
"Trent can't save you when you see me on the field ... ON AND OFF THE FIELD!", Gardner-Johnson stated. "Carry on."
San Francisco's talented wideout continued a string of social media posts on Monday.
"This is comedy. Catch me off the field, cause you barely on the field or bouncing round on different teams," Samuel expressed.
The 49ers and the Lions are two of the NFL's best teams early in the 2023 season, as both sport 5-1 records.
